Global Refuge Academic Skills Program (GRASP)
We are committed to Empowering students by Building Bridges to a Brighter Future.
The Global Refuge Academic Skills Program (GRASP) provides a free after school and summer program Monday to Thursday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. This program is for 3rd grade elementary students to high school students, especially geared to new refugees, resettled refugees, refugee claimants or asylum seekers and new immigrants. We provide enriched learning opportunities that complement school-day learning, utilize project-based learning, and explore new skills and knowledge. It is our conviction that academic success in education is the precursor to life success, as it opens doors for post-secondary education, higher earning potential, and a range of employment prospects.
GRASP provides academic enrichment activities, such as tutoring and literacy support, to reinforce school-based instruction to improve reading, math, and science and the overall school performance of low-performing schools. We also provide college and career readiness opportunities for students, including certificate costs, college application fees, and resume workshops. Students also engage in technology, sports, and spiritual enrichment. We are committed to providing a fun-filled, rewarding program that enriches the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual development of school-age children.
To ensure program effectiveness and accountability, GRASP is developed based on Florida’s Standards for Quality Afterschool Programs (Florida Afterschool Network, n.d.) and Florida’s School-Age Standards (FAN, 2009)
